சுருக்கம்:
Self-learning activities of the students play a major role in their learning development. Nevertheless, we cannot find the same interest of self-learning in all the students. Hence, this survey research aims to explore the importance of self learning in the learning development of senior secondary students and provide findings and recommendations. According to the convenience sampling, four schools were selected from the schools in Manmunai north division of Batticaloa education zone and four of their respective principals were selected for this study without sample selection. According to the simple random sampling, 90 senior secondary students were selected in a 4:1 ratio, and 37 teachers in a 3:1 ratio, and 22 of the parents of the selected students in a 4:1 ratio. Data were obtained from who was selected for samples using research tools such as Questionnaire, interview and observation. All the data thus obtained are quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed and shown in the form of charts and tables. Microsoft Excel utilized for this. The findings shown that Self-learning involvement of the students is on the low level, No proper facility of Library for self-learning in the schools, The students give more importance to hobbies than self-learning, The contribution of homely atmosphere is very poor for self-learning, Decreased self-learning of the students lead to a setback in their education, and Reading practice or habit is very poor among the students. The Recommendations are Students need to be involved to start self-learning from the primary education, Schools need to make effective measures for self-learning, Parents and teachers must support and encourage the students for self-learning and Reading habit of the students must be enhanced.
